Castle Pyrmont

Castle Pyrmont

The special charm of Pyrmont Castle lies in the combination of an important fortress and its superstructure by the baroque summer residence of the Princes of Waldeck and Pyrmont in the years 1706-1710. The Renaissance fortress with its moat, ramparts, casemates and corner bastion blends harmoniously into a castle complex that today forms the cultural center of the traditional spa town of Pyrmont.

The museum in Pyrmont Castle commemorates the almost 2000-year-old history of the Pyrmont springs and famous spa guests such as Tsar Peter the Great, Frederick the Great, Benjamin Franklin, Queen Luise, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Queen Emma of the Netherlands. The former royal state rooms on the Beletage, which can also be visited, regularly host a variety of special exhibitions on historical and modern social, artistic and cultural topics.

Castle island

The term “cultural island” has also become established due to the fact that the outdoor facilities, especially the two castle courtyards, provide an ideal backdrop for all kinds of open-air events. The unique umbrella construction in the northern courtyard guarantees events in almost any weather.

It is possible to have a civil wedding in the romantic Tischbeinsaal at Pyrmont Castle. Events and conferences can be organized in consultation with the Pyrmont Castle Board of Trustees. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday there are public guided tours of the permanent exhibition on the history of the town and baths as well as the castle’s historical showrooms.

The tour across the ramparts of the fortress offers unique impressions of the diversity of the Pyrmont spa gardens. The view of the palm garden can be enjoyed particularly well from the “Kaffeehaus im Schloss”, which invites you to linger during the season and in good weather.
